When he set foot in Africa for the first time, Federico Coppini had not imagined how his life would change. Of course, South Africa is very different from Italy, from Ferrara, but certain experiences led him to reconsider his priorities.
It began by chance, when he started giving tennis lessons in the suburb of Kayamandi, not too far from Cape Town. He realized that he could do something important for poor children, who are far removed from most-basic civilization.
When he realized that tennis – combined with his position – could represent something beautiful, he introspected within. The answers ignited important feelings, the irrepressible desire to try and change the situation of poverty to which too many children are condemned.
In order to be able to achieve this objective, he created the Tennis World Foundation, a charitable foundation that uses tennis as a tool to provide moral basis for children so as to prevent them from falling into the negative temptations instigated by poverty.
At that age, children need role models and protection. In certain social contexts, criminal gangs are the easiest way to meet certain needs. In contrast, Tennis World Foundation provides a safe path through a popular sport like tennis.
Popular, yes, but not so widespread in certain areas. For this reason, Coppini’s challenge is even more complex and fascinating. Thanks to the collaboration with several schools (an interesting project has recently started in Tanzania), Tennis World Foundation has begun to pursue important goals.
In the background there is the dream of building a tennis champion, but the concrete objectives – to which the many children of the project can aspire – involve a peaceful life, an important personal development and perhaps the possibility of gaining a scholarship.
With a staff of trained and motivated teachers, Coppini went on to create a structure to try to achieve his goal. As is normal, obstacles must be overcome before fulfilling a dream. In a continent like Africa, difficulties pertain to economics.
Despite having resources to help around 600 children, the Tennis World Foundation does not want to be limited. To dream big, however, it always takes more money. Since it is not easy to get it, you have to strive. Coppini has found a fantastic system, the best possible because it does not ask for a direct outlay (after understanding that, of course, it is possible to make traditional offers).
Thus, after some weeks, Tab Tennis Foundation was born. A very simple system, which requires the simple installation of an extension tab on your computer and/or laptop. Once the operation is completed, every time a new tab is opened on your browser, Tennis World Foundation receives a small aid from you and, consequently, for the children involved in the project.
Progress is still a little slow: many are complimenting Coppini for the goodness of the initiative, but not all of them have actually taken action. Nothing needs to be done, as the system is automatic. At most, those who join the project can spread the word to friends and acquaintances.
